Welcome to Busy Bees

Miss Horsfield

Hello! My name is Miss Horsfield and I am your class teacher.

I have been a teacher here at Ryecroft for the last 10 years and I am very much looking forward to teaching Foundation for the seventh year running.

I live with my partner and we enjoy spending time together going on walks and exploring new places. During the summer holidays, we are excited to be welcoming a puppy into our family, and we can’t wait to take them on lots of adventures.

I am looking forward to September and getting to know more about you!

Autumn Term 2

We have had a fantastic first half term at school and have learnt lots of new and interesting things. We have made many friends and are getting to know the school rules and routines. We have all settled in well and are looking forward to another exciting half term.

This half term we have a fun packed topic called, “Let Me Hear You Roar!” The children will be learning all about Dinosaurs and this theme will form the basis of a lot of our learning.

The children will be reading stories such as ‘Harry & His Bucket Full of Dinosaurs’, ‘A First Book of Dinosaurs’ and ‘Dear Dinosaur’. This half term the children will continue to work on writing letters using correct formation and write CVC words to label different pictures.

In Mathematics we will be exploring 2D shapes in our learning environment and describing position. The children will also be learning how to compare sets of objects by recognising quantities and focusing on counting skills through exploring ‘five-ness of 5’ using one hand and the die pattern for 5.

Next half-term we will also have our ‘Dinosaur Dig’ workshop. This is an opportunity for children to explore fossils and bones of different dinosaurs and find out different facts about dinosaurs.

Please keep checking our webpage for more pictures and news soon! It is going to be a very exciting half term that’s for sure!

Our Classroom

There is a designated area to store water bottles to ensure that children can have a drink throughout the day. We ask that you only provide water in your child’s bottle to help keep them hydrated.

Children will receive homework on a Friday. Homework will consist of Maths and phonics. Please return homework in the homework bag by Wednesday.

PE days will be on a Tuesday. On a Tuesday children can come to school in their PE kit. This should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts, joggers or leggings. Please make sure that all items are clearly labelled and kept in a labelled bag. Earrings should be removed on these days and long hair needs to be tied back.

Children need to bring a book bag to school everyday. Children will have 3 books in their book bag that will include a phonics book, a book bag book and a reading for enjoyment book. Books are changed on a Friday. Some children may read more than once a week with different staff. Remember to read at home and write in their home school diary to take part in our reading race.
