Welcome to Talented Tigers
Mrs Haworth
Hello my name is Mrs Haworth and I will be your teacher on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. I have three children Gracie, Heidi and Toby. Gracie is in sixth form and Heidi and Toby are at secondary school. I also have a fluffy dog called Ted who I love taking for walks. During my spare time I like to read and I also go swimming several times a week.
For the last 20 years I have worked at Ryecroft and had the pleasure of getting to know so many wonderful children and their families. Most of my teaching career has been spent in Year 2 but I have experience teaching across the primary age range. I’m looking forward to an exciting year of learning and fun in Year 1.
Mrs Hill
My name is Mrs Hill and I will be teaching you on a Thursday and Friday. I live with Mr Hill and our son Louie, who is one. In my spare time I enjoytaking Louie to different places such as the park, farm or swimming. I love going on holiday with my family and enjoy travelling to different places.
I have worked at Ryecroft for most of my teaching career and have worked in all year groups. I relly enjoy teaching in year 1 and we have lots of excitng topics to cover and places to see.
I look forward to meeting you all in September.

Autumn Term 1
We would like to welcome you to all to Year 1. We can’t wait to see you back in school after the holidays and hear about all the great things you have been up to.
There are so many fun things planned for your return to school for example, a visit to Cannon Hall Farm and a walk around Rosehill Park looking for signs of Autumn.
In English we will be working hard to develop our confidence and independence when using and applying our phonic knowledge. We’ll be using these skills to write sentences about farm animals and learning how to punctuate them correctly. One of our core texts will be ‘The Pig in the Pond’ by Martin Waddell & Jill Barton which we will use to generate vocabulary and stimulate our writing.
In Maths we will be practising our number recognition to 20 and beyond. We’ll also be looking at number patterns and counting in practical contexts. We will develop our addition and subtraction skills, adding and subtracting from one and then two-digit numbers.
Our afternoon theme sessions will be Science focussed where we will be learning facts about lots of different animals. We will find out about their similarities and differences and sort them according to different criteria. We will learn about our body and explore our senses and what we use them for.

Our Classroom
There is a designated area to store water bottles to ensure that children can have a drink throughout the day. We ask that you only provide water in your child’s bottle to help keep them hydrated.
Children will receive homework on a Friday. Homework will consist of Maths and spellings. Please return homework in the homework bag by Wednesday. Spellings are tested on a Friday.
PE days will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday. On a Tuesday children can come to school in their PE kit. However for our Wednesday PE lesson, children need to have a PE kit that can be stored on their peg all week. This should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts, joggers or leggings. Please make sure that all items are clearly labelled and kept in a labelled bag. Earrings should be removed on these days and long hair needs to be tied back.
Children need to bring a bookbag to school everyday. Children will have 3 books in their book bag that will include a phonics book, a bookbag book and a reading for enjoyment book. Books are changed on a Friday. Some children may read more than once a week with different staff. Remember to read at home and write in their home school diary to take part in our reading race.
