Welcome to Busy Bees

At the heart of the EYFS is the principle that young children need to play in order to have fun, make friends, and begin to learn and understand the world around them. This is where the foundations are laid, good or bad, for your child’s future education. A child’s early years’ experience should be happy, active, exciting fun and secure.

In September over the first few weeks our focus will be building relationships, finding out what you like to do and getting to know everyone individually. This is an important time for children to settle into new routines and get to know their new friends and teachers. As part of developing new friendships and getting to know each other we will play a variety of different games in the indoor and outdoor environment. This will also help with developing and understanding of the schools expectations.

Our first learning theme is ‘Once upon a time’. Over the half term we will explore a wide range of traditional tales including ‘Goldilocks and the three bears’ and ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. By looking at different traditional tales we will be able to develop our language and literacy skills, by listening, acting out and exploring these tales. We will also be starting our days with Read, Write, Inc which is the phonics scheme we use. This will help to support our early reading skills by learning the different letters and sounds they make.

In Maths children will be learning how to subitise by recognising quantities without counting them, exploring how numbers are all made of ones and talking about measures and patterns.

In Personal, Social and Emotional (PSHE) we will be focussing on our school values. These include respect, resilience, care, community and achieve. We will spend lots of time doing circle time where we can talk about our school values and develop an understanding of what a good learner looks like. In the first few weeks of the term we will introduce our ‘show me 5’ rules which will enable children to develop an awareness of the expectations in the classroom and how we can ensure that our peers and our teachers are shown respect towards one another and treated kindly.

As well as looking at traditional tales we will also enjoy singing familiar nursery rhymes and songs, dancing and playing musical instruments in our music lessons.
