Intent

Pupils will explore Christianity and two other principal religions Judaism and Islam. 

They will learn about different beliefs about God and the world around them and the value this can bring.They will encounter and respond to a range of stories,artefacts and other religious materials. They will learn to recognise that beliefs are expressed in a variety of ways.Pupils will ask relevant questions and develop a sense of wonder about the world. They will talk about what is important to them and others, valuing themselves, reflecting on their own feelings and experiences and developing a sense of belonging.

Implementation

At Ryecroft we teach RE with passion and understanding in order to foster children’s curiosity about the world. We encourage children to explore, ask questions and reflect throughout their RE curriculum experiences. RE is taught through theme driven learning, with dedicated readings, assemblies, visits, guest speakers, artefacts and PHSE discussions. Children’s knowledge and skills will develop progressively as they move through the school, to enable them to meet the requirements of The Early Learning Goals and The National Curriculum and to prepare them to become understanding caring members of their community and wider society.

Impact

The teaching of RE will enable children to appreciate the way that religious beliefs shape life and behaviour and will enhance their spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. They will ask questions about the world around them and reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.  Through their R.E. learning, the children will be able to make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world, developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life, promoting diversity, tolerance and respect.This will assist them in finding ways to explore, navigate and understand the world around them and their place within it.
