Hello my name is Mrs Haworth and I will be your teacher on Thursdays and Fridays. Mrs Martin will be your teacher on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I have three children Gracie, Heidi and Toby. My daughters are at secondary school and my son is in Year 5. I also have a fluffy dog called Teddy who I like to take for long walks. I have a large family who I love spending time with, and we often go caravanning together. In my spare time I enjoy swimming and love to read in the garden especially on a sunny day!

For the last 18 years I have worked at Ryecroft and had the pleasure of getting to know so many wonderful families. Most of my teaching career has been spent in Year 2 but I have experience teaching across the primary age range. I’m really looking forward to getting to know you all properly and can’t wait to continue our exciting learning journey. We are going to have an amazing year!

Mrs Martin

I have been a teacher here at Ryecroft School for 11 years and have worked in both year 1 and year 2. I have three gorgeous little boys named Rafe, Eldon and Huxley and a dog called Orche who all keep me very busy on my days off. I love the outdoors and spending time with my family. We enjoy going on walks together, visiting new places and camping. When I do get some time to myself, I enjoy going to the gym and baking lots of delicious treats. I am really looking forward to September and working with you all. I am sure we will have an amazing year ahead!

Autumn Term 2

The children have work extremely hard during this half term and have settled well into their new routines.

After half term our first theme will be based around ‘Remembrance’. We will be learning about why we buy poppies and the reasons for Remembrance. On Friday 11th November we will be visiting the war memorial in Rawmarsh to pay our respects to all those who have lost their lives in the wars. We will also be designing and making our own army vehicles and testing them out to see how far they can travel.

We will also have a week of learning based around materials and their properties. The children will have the opportunity to investigate and perform simple tests. The week will end with a fun filled ‘Mad Science Day’.

During the final part of the half term we will be learning about Christianity and why Christians Celebrate Christmas. This will include a visit to St Nicolas Church.

Our Classroom

There is a designated area to store water bottles to ensure that children can have a drink throughout the day. We ask that you only provide water in your child’s bottle to help keep them hydrated.

Children will receive homework on a Friday. Homework will consist of Maths and spellings. Please return homework in the homework bag by Wednesday. Spellings are tested on a Friday.

PE days will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. On a Tuesday children can come to school in their PE kit. However for our Thursday PE lesson, children need to have a PE kit that can be stored on their peg all week. This should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts, joggers or leggings. Please make sure that all items are clearly labelled and kept in a labelled bag. Earrings should be removed on these days and long hair needs to be tied back.

Children need to bring a bookbag to school everyday. Children will have 3 books in their book bag that will include a phonics book, a bookbag book and a reading for enjoyment book. Books are changed on a Friday. Some children may read more than once a week with different staff. Remember to read at home and write in their home school diary to take part in our reading race.
