SEMH

At Rawmarsh Ryecroft Infant School we pride ourselves on nurturing each and every child in our care to be a happy and successful child! We are committed to working alongside families to ensure each pupil is valued and respected within the Ryecroft family. We recognise that children’s personal, social and emotional health is of key importance to support their cognitive development, alongside their social and physical health. We want to give pupils the best support for their own well-being to ensure they develop skills to support their mental health from childhood through to adulthood.

Our Senior Mental Health Lead in school is Mrs Kate Blythe

Being mentally healthy in childhood allows children to succeed. We are proud of our school values;

Respect, Resilience, Achieve, Community, and Care.

These values underpin everything we do and develop children’s learning around mental health and wellbeing. Being mentally healthy in childhood means learning social skills and meeting developmental milestones, for example, these include how to cope when mistakes are made, or problems arise. Building children’s resilience will support them to lead happy and healthy lives, resulting in positive outcomes in school, at home and as part of the community.

Our Aims

  • Physical health – to teach children to take care of their physical wellbeing, by being active and understanding the effect healthy eating and lifestyle choices can have on our bodies.
  • Emotional health – to teach children to understand emotions and how they can cope with these in everyday life. Giving them effective strategies and coping mechanisms.
  • Social – to teach pupils about a sense of belonging. Feeling valued and respected within the school community will support children to build good social skills for social inclusion. This will support an understanding of relationships, beliefs, traditions and lifestyles for example.

In school, each week, children are encouraged and given opportunities to talk about how they are feeling, and worries or questions they have. This can be done through a variety of ways including everyday practice, or through tailored lessons such as PSHE.

Parent and Carers Mental Health and wellbeing

We understand having young children, busy lives and everyday things to do can impact adult mental health and wellbeing. We are proud to be an inclusive school, keen to build strong relationships with parents/carers and the community. Parents/carers are encouraged to speak to a member of staff if they are finding things difficult. Staff in school are trained to sign post you to the relevant professionals who may be able to help you. Please see the links below of services and charities that you may find useful.
