School Update - Friday 10th July 2026
I didn't even need to go down to the woods to find the teddy bears this week. They were busy on our playground having a picnic with the children from Curious Caterpillars. I even managed to sneak off with a cake.
This week it has been a pleasure to welcome our new September starters into FS2. They were fantastic and enjoyed exploring their new classrooms and the outdoor area. Whilst the Y2 children have been to Rosehill, our current FS2 and Year 1 have moved to their new classes Wise Owls, Talented Tigers and the 'all new' Marvellous Meerkats. We have also welcomed back Mrs Wright from her maternity leave. Look out for our Facebook page this weekend for some great photographs of Year 2 transition to their junior classroom.
The children have managed brilliantly on the hot days and our lunchtime ice pops have gone down a treat! Thank you to our families who are always so supportive and careful by providing hats, sun cream before school and water bottles.
Upcoming Events

School Update Friday 3rd July 2026
A cooler but still frantic, football filled week at Ryecroft
Our Tigers and Bees have been looking at the art work of Van Gogh and used it to inspire their own. We were very impressed with their creativity.
Look out on our Facebook page this weekend for some great pictures of our 'Come and Read' Event in school last week. We hope you enjoyed the stories shared by our teachers.
Our transition for our new starters and children leaving us for Y3 has really begun with some of our Wise Owls visiting Rosehill and our September FS2 children attending a Stay and Play with their families. It was great to see new faces and some very familiar ones too.
We now look forward to our full transition days for our current FS2, Y1 and Y2 children next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Emails with new classes and staffing will be sent on Monday so families know which rooms to go to on Tuesday morning.
Transition and change can always be a challenge but, as in all our work, the children remain the priority and we will add in any additional events we need to to ensure everyone feels happy and confident about September before we finish for summer.

A huge and grateful thank you to all our wonderful families who have been out on a very hot afternoon and support our Summer Fayre. It was great to see some of our old children return to Ryecroft, even if only to squirt water at Mr Butler
This is one of the ways we raise money at school for all the special treats and events we run for our children and, hopefully this year, to replace our school defibrillator which can be used by the whole community.
Because of the other events we have planned we did not have another date and so decided to go for it. It has been real hard work for the amazing staff and I need to thank them all also!
It has been a very hot week and we have been grateful for having air conditioned spaces for our children to work in. By sending those sun hats and applying that cream, we have been able to continue of learning and safely enjoy the fun that lovely weather brings.

The second half of the summer term has not quite brought the lovely weather of last week but it has been great to have our children back in school.

This week we held a 'Try A School Dinner' today to encourage our children to try out what we offer. It was lovely to see so many of our pupils trying something new and different.
Thank you to all our families who have joined us this week at our 'Picture This' celebrations and exhibition. We are so proud of the hard work undertaken by our children and staff to create their pieces. It is made up of a selection of art from across the school and many pieces that children have collaborated on, something we particularly value.

We hope you have seen our 'Picture This' letter this week which lets families know about our special events and our exhibition of our learning this year. This is an annual project that all our children are involved in and they are looking forward to sharing this with you on the last Friday of term.
More fantastic artwork has been happening this week in Year 1. I was so impressed that I have taken some pictures and will put them up on our school Facebook page this weekend. Please take a look.
A plea to parents as we look forward to next year. If you are buying shoes for children to wear for school, please buy ones with either buckles, velcro or zips. Children are busy all day and we often get trips caused by unfastened shoe laces. If you a needing a new pair or thinking for the future, please only sent shoes with laces if children can confidently manage them themselves.

School Update - Friday 24th April 2026
Oracy has been a big part of our development work in school this year. We work every week on 'The Big Question' and have focused on teaching children both 'to talk' and 'through talk'. Patience our parrot helps us with our oracy work and she LOVES to talk!
We have enjoyed the sunshine and the temperatures warming up this week. It has been lovely to see children in summer uniform. Please remember on warm days that hats are always encouraged and water bottles should be brought every day.
We are happy for children to wear trainers and other sensible shoes but please remember that children should not have Crocs for school. We encourage busy and physical outdoor play and games and want to ensure our children are dressed to join in.
We have enjoyed seeing our bike and scooter sheds fill up this week and families walking to school. Parking around school has always been difficult but is increasingly challenging now the building next door is back in use. Please ensure you park courteously, both for our neighbours and for the families who are accessing the pavements.

It has been wonderful to also have our lovely Mrs Hill back from her maternity leave. She will be busy in Caterpillars on a Wednesday and in Tigers on Thursday and Friday.

On our school website, we update our specific page with information that we think will help you keep your children safe when they use the internet at home. These websites are also great places to support families to make informed choices.

School Update - Friday 21st November 2025
It has been great this week to see so many families in school, attending special events and sharing learning experiences with their children.
On Monday our FS2 children and their families enjoyed ‘Stay and Play’ events with a focus on writing and phonics. Please see our Facebook page over the weekend for more pictures.
This year’s Books and Biscuits encouraged children and their special people to talk about what they had read. Research we shared explains that children’s understanding and use of language as young as 5 is a great indicator of their success as they get older and we wanted to encourage as much talk as possible with our table questions …. We hope you also enjoyed the biscuits!
Christmas Production preparations are underway! Your child is coming home with their lines if they have a speaking role. Please practice daily and keep them in book bags! Everyone has a special part to play (costumes provided!) and we can't wait to see you in the audience!
Our full Christmas letter is out today with all the festive dates for the next four weeks! We're excited to share these magical Ryecroft moments with you!
Please remember our wraparound care provision with Breakfast Club available from 7.45am for £3.50 and After School Club for £8.50 up to 5.45pm. Please book places via the Arbor App and look out for our upcoming special events!

This week we have sent out our Attendance and Punctuality letter. These expectations have been in place for schools since September 2024 and this letter is to remind our established families and to inform our new ones. School has to work within Government guidelines on attendance and we follow specific protocols. We cannot stress the importance of good attendance and punctuality enough and we are keen to help families who may experience challenges around this.
Check out our Facebook page this weekend to see some amazing pictures from our youngest children and hear what they have been up to.
Upcoming events next week:
Monday 13th – Wise Owl’s – Walk to Rosehill Park
Wednesday 15th - Individual School Photos
Friday 17th – Harvest Festival – Y1 and Y2 Children (10am)
Due to space in the hall we ideally ask for only one parent/carer to attend.
As we have in previous years, we will be supporting the Rawmarsh Food Bank this Harvest Festival. They are specifically asked for donations of:
• Washing Up Liquid
• Deodorant
• Shampoo
• Tinned Fruit
• Tinned Custard
• Treats – chocolate, biscuits etc
• Pasta Sause
Please pass on donations to your class teacher. They will be gratefully received.
Applications are open for FS2 places in September 2026. If you know families who are making these important choices for their children, please let them know that we welcome visits and are happy to answer questions.
Please remember, we also have Wraparound Care available with Breakfast Club from 7.45am for £3.50 and After School Club for £8.50 up to 5.45pm. Please book places via the Arbor App.

Busy Bees and Talented Tigers went for a walk around our local area this week. To develop their geographical understanding, they were spotting the human and physical features in the places close to our school. They were extremely sensible and used clipboards to record their findings
Thank you to those parents who joined us at our FS2 Reading Meeting. Hopefully this will have given you an insight into how we teach reading at Ryecroft. Our families know how much we value reading at home with your children and we have sent out the 'Reading Race' letter today to remind you of the prizes and incentives we give to encourage this. 5-10 minutes a day really can make all the difference!
Next Week

Thursday 2nd - 'GIVE IT A TRY - WIN PRIZES WITH A SCHOOL DINNER'
On Thursday we are encouraging every child to try out a school dinner. We will be a chance to win special prizes for those children that are giving them a try. If your child would normally have a packed lunch this can be brought too if required but we would love all our children to give these free meals a go!

We would love for all children to have a chance to win one of our prizes by trying a dinner on that day!

Our FS2 children have wowed us this afternoon as we said 'au revoir' to Mrs Wright. She is finally heading off on maternity leave and we can't wait to welcome a new baby into our Ryecroft family. She leaves with all our love and we look forward to newborn cuddles soon.
It was the FS2 children's first time with the whole school in the hall and they sat and listened beautifully.
We have also had a visit from a local Iman this week to speak to our Y2 children about Islam. Y2 asked lots of important questions and learnt about the 5 pillars of Islam.
Some of our FS2 families were also able to attend our first Family Learning Event of the year. These creative afternoons are always well
received by everyone and we will share some pictures over on our Facebook page.
Please remember, we also have Wraparound Care available with Breakfast Club from 7.45am for £3.50 and After School Club for £8.50 up to 5.45pm. Please book places via the Arbor App.

Autumn seems to be slowly creeping in and the Autumn display is used to encourage our children to think about how the seasons changing.
Our new FS2 children are beginning to settle into the routines of the school day. For many children this will be the longest time they have been away from their parents and carers for a consistent period and we always anticipate some tears (especially after the initial excitement!)
We are always keen to help settle children and support them in school by providing the reassurance and care they need. We always think how we would want someone to treat our own children and go from there.
Please look out on our Facebook page over the weekend for some more great photographs of our children at work and play.
In the coming week we will begin to send out information about clubs, activities and special events over this term so please look out for this information both on here and via email.
Next Week's Events:
Monday 15th - Curious Caterpillars - Family Learning Event

School Update - Friday 5th September 2025
A great first week back at school!
It has been wonderful to get to know our new FS2 children and watch friendships new and old develop across school.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate the Arbour system. Please ensure that you have the Arbour App installed as all emails, messages, payments and bookings will be sent through this in the future
For our parents new to Class Dojo, this is used as a general communication tool between home and school. Unlike some nursery app's we don't sent specific information about children but we share photos of what we have been up to this week and weekly updates and reminders from myself.
It can be used to contact staff members but they may not always see the alerts. If you need information or help quickly the best way is to phone or to email the admin email address.
We also publish letters on here alongside emailing them and using the school website to try to keep you as up to date as possible,
Please see our Facebook page to see pictures of our children enjoying the new play equipment this week. We encourage all our families to follow this page and share with family and friends.
If you need any further help or support, please see me at the gate or contact school on admin@ryecroftinfant.co.uk
Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you on Monday.
