Welcome to Curious Caterpillars

We would like to warmly welcome your child to the ‘Curious Caterpillars.’

We are looking forward to welcoming your children into school in September and helping them settle in and become part of the Ryecroft family. The children will spend lots of time over the first few weeks settling in and getting to know one another and getting to grips with the school routines and expectations.

This half term we explore many of the traditional tales in literacy, sharing the stories, role playing different scenes within the story and learning to write our name and form letters correctly.

In our mathematics learning we will practice counting out loud, counting with one to one correspondence. We will work on sorting and matching a range of objects in different ways and talking about our reasoning. The children will also begin to subitise numbers to 5.

As part of our theme learning in the afternoons, we will explore materials: naming them, sorting them and describing them. For our creative learning this half term we will practice our pencil grip and take our pencil for a walk around the page. The children will use their skills to draw a simple self-portrait.

This half term there will be a reading meeting to explain how the Read Write Ink scheme works, what to expect and how to support your child at home. Children will receive weekly homework on a Friday, which needs to be returned to school by the following Wednesday. Please can all children bring to school their book bags every day to ensure they have everything they need when staff in school are listening to them read.

Please label all of your child’s school uniform and general belongings such as water bottles as things can easily become misplaced and it is more likely to make its way back to you if it is clearly labelled. I am available on the door each morning to ask questions or discuss any concerns you may have.
