Mrs Wright

Hello, my name is Mrs Wright and I will be your teacher in Year 2.

I have a little boy called Alex who is 5 and a little girl called Ada who is almost 1 year old. They keep me very busy when I’m not at school. I enjoy spending a lot of time with my family going to different places. One of our favourite places to visit is the zoo to see all the different animals. I also enjoy swimming and I love to read before I go to sleep.

I have been a teacher at Ryecroft for many years where I have spent time teaching in both Year 1 and Year 2. I am really looking forward to getting to know you all and I hope you are looking forward to the year ahead.

We are going to have a fantastic year.

Class 2

Autumn Term 1

Hello and welcome to Marvellous Meerkats. We had a very busy 3 days for transition and we have enjoyed getting to know each and every one of you. All of the children have settled in well to their new surroundings and new routines.

In September, we will be starting our first theme called ‘Around the World in 35 days’. We will be reading a variety of books to support and stimulate our writing such as ‘Mr Elephants Rio Tour’, ‘Paddington’ as well as a variety of other texts around Islam. In our writing, we will continue to try and push the children from dictation to writing simple independent sentences. To support this, the children will move to completing their own picture plan which will help generate their own ideas.

In Maths, we will be initially focusing on Number specifically focusing on place value, building on our previous learning from Year 1. Once we have completed this, we will be moving on to addition and subtraction encouraging children to use their number facts and becoming more efficient at solving simple number sentences.

In Theme, we will go on a tour with the ‘Ryecroft Bear’. We will visit countries including Brazil, Pakistan, Arctic/Antarctica and Australia. The children will look at identifying different places on a map of the world and also identify physical and human features.

Our Classroom

There is a designated area to store water bottles to ensure that children can have a drink throughout the day. We ask that you only provide water in your child’s bottle to help keep them hydrated.

Children will receive homework on a Friday. Homework will consist of Maths and spellings. Please return homework in the homework bag by Wednesday. Spellings are tested on a Friday.

PE days will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday. On a Tuesday children can come to school in their PE kit. However for our Wednesday PE lesson, children need to have a PE kit that can be stored on their peg all week. This should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts, joggers or leggings. Please make sure that all items are clearly labelled and kept in a labelled bag. Earrings should be removed on these days and long hair needs to be tied back.

Children need to bring a bookbag to school everyday. Children will have 3 books in their book bag that will include a phonics book, a bookbag book and a reading for enjoyment book. Books are changed on a Friday. Some children may read more than once a week with different staff. Remember to read at home and write in their home school diary to take part in our reading race.
