Mr Butler
Hi, my name is Mr Butler and I am the Year 2 teacher in Wise Owls.
I currently work as part of the KS1 team at Ryecroft. After completing my university studies, I became a teaching assistant at Ryecroft in 2017. I spent 2 years working alongside the fantastic team which inspired me to become a teacher. Having completed my teaching studies, I have since returned to Ryecroft and I am moving into my seventh year of teaching. I thoroughly love being a part of the Ryecroft community.
I love watching football and playing cricket for one of the local teams. I also love going on holiday.
Wise Owls
Autumn Term 1
Hello and welcome to ‘Wise Owls’. Myself and the children are very excited about moving into our mixed year group and having spent transition together we can’t wait to get started. Miss Newsam and Miss Denby have helped us settle into our new surroundings very well.
When we return after the summer holidays our theme focus is ‘Around the World in 35 days’. We will be reading a variety of books to support and stimulate our writing such as ‘Mr Elephants Rio Tour’ and ‘Paddington and non- fiction texts around Islam. In our writing we will continue to try and push the children from dictation to writing simple independent sentences. To support this, the children will move to completing their own picture plan which will help generate their own ideas.
In maths this half term we will focus on number. We will initially build on our place value learning we have done before in year 1. We will spend the first 3 weeks when we return on place value. We will then move onto addition and subtraction for 2 weeks looking at adding one digit numbers to each other. We will look at multiplication and division and specifically equal groups. We will then look at money in the final week.
In our theme learning we will be exploring a range of artwork including creating ‘Islamic art’. In geography we will go on a tour with the ‘Ryecroft Bear’. We will visit countries including Brazil, Pakistan, Arctic/Antarctica and Australia. The children will look at identifying different places on a map of the world and also identify physical and human features.

Our Classroom
There is a designated area to store water bottles to ensure that children can have a drink throughout the day. We ask that you only provide water in your child’s bottle to help keep them hydrated.
Children will receive homework on a Friday. Homework will consist of Maths and spellings. Please return homework in the homework bag by Wednesday (please keep the spellings to practice daily). Spellings are tested on a Friday.
PE days will be on a Tuesday and Thursday. On a Tuesday children can come to school in their PE kit. However for our Thursday PE lesson, children need to have a PE kit that can be stored on their peg all week. This should consist of a white t-shirt, black shorts, joggers or leggings. Please make sure that all items are clearly labelled and kept in a labelled bag. Earrings should be removed on these days and long hair needs to be tied back.
Children need to bring a bookbag to school everyday. Children will have 4 books in their book bag that will include a phonics book, a book bag book, poetry book and a reading for enjoyment book. Books are changed on a Friday. Some children may read more than once a week with different staff. Remember to read at home and write in their home school diary to take part in our reading race.
