PE
Intent
Lessons in PE aim to promote a healthy and active lifestyle where children gain a love for physical activity. Children will develop their agility, balance and coordination through a range of activities including invasion games, dance and gymnastics. Each year the children have the opportunity of varied sports activities and a whole school Sports Day at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
Implementation
It is important children take part in 2 timetabled PE lessons a week. They also have structured playimes and lunchtimes. We encourage them to work together in team sports to develop their confidence. Children can receive feedback on aspects of their performance such as dance routines. Children have the oppourtunity to take part in intra-school competitions to build on the competitive element of sport.. An external sports coach comes into school to deliver PE lessons to each class weekly.
Impact
Children will have developed the fundamental movement skills, including agility, balance and coordination. They will be able to apply these when performing dance and simple movement patterns. They will also be able to apply these to team games and competitive situations. Having responsibility for their own health and fitness will mean they lead a happy and healthy lifestyle. This will have a postive impact on their love for sport and will increase their physical activrty levels in and out of school.
Children are expected to have a PE kit which can be kept in a bag on their peg. Indoor kit should be a white t-shirt, black shorts or leggings and a pair of black pumps. PE on Tuesdays with Mr Rocket children are expected to attend school in PE kits. This should be plain black jackets, jogging bottoms and trainers.
